FDR much like with Teddy, thought it was of rather low ambition and character for a person, particularly a very wealthy person, to have their ultimate inspiration and aspiration in life to simply be – to make more money. Especially without equally contributing back to the common good of humanity.
Perhaps it was through and due to their own losses, trials and tribulations of each of their personal lives that they developed empathy, rather than sociopathy. And helped set the foundations on which their progressive policies were based that first established and grew the American Middle Class which became the envy of the world and made America great the first time around. No matter how imperfect, ugly and lacking greatness it was for many of the women, poor, uneducated and people of color in their time.
